Frequently asked questions

Why does it not record all night?

On purpose. NightBlab listens all night but only keeps the moments you talk, laugh or mumble, plus a couple of seconds of lead-in. Fans, AC and pets are ignored. That keeps storage small and means you can find the funny part without scrubbing through hours of silence. If you want everything the app hears, turn on "Keep everything" in Settings. A silent night is a good night: the Listening heartbeat shows the night is still running.

Should I keep my phone plugged in?

Yes. Listening overnight uses the microphone and on-device analysis, so plug your phone in and place it within a few feet of the bed, screen up or down, with the microphone uncovered. Do not force-quit the app while a night is running. If a call or alarm interrupts, NightBlab resumes and marks the gap in your Night Reel.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings in NightBlab and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with. Lifetime and Yearly both restore this way. To manage or cancel the Yearly subscription, go to iOS Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.

How do I export my recordings, transcripts and dreams?

Go to Settings, then Export. You get your audio, transcripts and dream entries in open formats, free for everyone. You can also share a single clip from its card.

How do I delete everything?

Go to Settings, then Delete Everything. This permanently removes all clips, transcripts and dreams from your device. You can also delete single clips or nights from the Night Reel. Deleting the app removes everything too.

Do my recordings leave my phone?

No. Recording, sound detection and transcription all happen on your device, and there is no account or server. Read the Privacy Policy.

Transcripts look wrong.

Sleep talk is mumbly, so transcripts are a best guess. Tap a transcript to edit it.

Is NightBlab a medical app?

No. It is an entertainment and journaling app and makes no snoring or sleep apnea claims. See a doctor if you are worried about your sleep.
